“Buffalo Creek”…Dogwood

Dogwood in its original configuration.

Each February 26th since 1972 we remember the 125 people who perished on that day in a raging flash flood that tore mercilessly through the mining community of Buffalo Creek in Logan County, WV.  Caused by a waste water dam that broke, the devastation was incredibly extensive. With this post is a video of the song, “Buffalo Creek” that we wrote about the disaster. It was originally recorded by the trio, “Dogwood” (Steve, Annie, Ron Elder), that we were a part of in the early part of the 1970’s. Joined by our friends and fellow musicians, Lindsey Williams (guitar/slide guitar) and Ken Fletcher (bass), Dogwood presented the song during a reunion concert at Koinonia Coffeehouse on Music Row in Nashville.
