Wednesday’s Prayer Guide-Week #20

“…So Father God, to You I come, In the name of Your Son, I bring my children to Your throne, Father hear my cry…”

WP e cover copy      Thank You, Father, for hearing us all these Wednesdays as we’ve sacrificed and prayed for our children. What an incredible privilege and a comfort it has been to trust them into Your capable hands.

In those times when we’ve struggled to be consistent and forgotten to follow through, You have not forgotten our deep longing that our children know and follow You.

We pray that as we continue to cry out to You on their behalf that You will keep them in Your good care. In Jesus’ name, amen.

A note from us:

Thank you for joining in these weeks of concentrating your prayers on Wednesdays for your children. We sincerely pray that God will give you the strength to continue making a regular sacrifice for them.

We invite you to start over at week #1. And, whenever you need encouragement, please feel free to return to this post and listen again to the song posted below. Or, as some folks are doing, you could listen each Wednesday and use it as your prayer. We’d be honored if you will!

God bless you and your children!

Wednesday’s Prayer Guide-Week #17

“And as my flesh cries out for bread…”

On this day, Oh! Lord, we come to your throne of grace bearing the offering of fleshly hunger.  In no way is this small sacrifice comparable to what You gave to us in Your Holy Son, Christ Jesus. Still, we Breadcome with a hopeful heart that You will see this hunger as a cry for Your attentive ear.

We know that without Your merciful intervention in the lives of our children, they will never experience the peace and purpose You have planned for them.  As parents who love their children more than life itself, please accept this small but sincere gesture of fasting food on their behalf.  Please credit this sacrifice to their account.

Hear us, O, Lord.  In Jesus’ name.

Amen.

“…is not life more than food…?”  Matthew 6:25

“When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting.  I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.  But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face…and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”  Matthew 6:16-18

More about Fasting:

Fasting is a voluntary act of devotion and is not required as an expression of salvation. Fasting is used and encouraged in the Bible:

  • Fasting in times of personal sorrow (2 Samuel 1:12; Nehemiah 1:4)
  • Fasting as a part of repentance (Jonah 3:5)
  • Fasting practiced as a part of important events (Exodus 34:28; Matt. 4:2; Acts 13:2,3; 2 Cor. 6:5; 11:27)
  • Fasting is not for the purpose of showing one’s spiritual superiority or self-righteousness.  It is only beneficial and accepting from the Lord when done with the right motive. (Isaiah 58; Matt. 6:16-18; Luke 18:9-14)

Additional benefits of fasting:  Fasting has physical health benefits; fasting is honored when done as an expression of dependence and contrition; fasting helps promote self-discipline

A “Mother’s Touch” – HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!!!

Lillian Chapman (Steve’s mother)

We wish all the moms a Happy Mother’s Day!

If you want to give your mother a special recognition we encourage you to either play this song for her personally or send her the link to this post!

“Mother’s Touch” was written a few years ago to honor my own sweet mom, Lillian Chapman.

Mother’s Touch

She could open up the pantry with hardly nothing there

And like the loaves and fishes there’d be plenty left to share

And she could take a penny and stretch it to a dime

She could kiss a fever and leave us feeling fine

And there’s only one explanation

For these amazing transformations

How she could take it so little and turn it into so much

Cause God gave her a miracle when He gave her the mother’s touch

Give her two yards of cotton and a little bit of lace

She’d turn a flower on the wall to the prettiest girl in the place

She could take a young man’s heart that’s drowning in it’s tears

And bring back the sunshine with just a listening ear

And there’s only one explanation

For these amazing transformations

How she could take it so little and turn it into so much

Cause God gave her a miracle when He gave her the mother’s touch

And of all a mother’s hands can do

Nothing can compare

To the way she could reach up to heaven

And touch a child with her prayer

And there’s only one explanation

For these amazing transformations

How she could take it so little and turn it into so much

Cause God gave her a miracle when He gave her the mother’s touch

Wednesday’s Prayer Guide-Week 16

“…a purpose for their years…”

WP e cover

Dear Father,

As long as our children have breath, grace them with a keen awareness of their heavenly purpose for their earthly existence. May their lives not be wasted nor their time squandered on quests that lack in eternal value.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.  Romans 8:28

“Give their hands a Kingdom task…”

Oh Father,

Whether our children’s workplace is in a church building or an office building, on a mission field or a crop field, God help them to embrace the fact that whatever they do, because they belong to You they ultimately are ambassadors of Your eternal Kingdom.

If their work is in an environment that restricts them from openly proclaiming Your goodness we ask you IMAG0187to help them understand that a lighthouse does not have to scream, it only needs to quietly shine to be effective. Help them to realize that there is no workplace policy that can keep them from being kind to others, honest and hardworking. There are no rules that can hinder a positive attitude and a loving manner and the kind of behavior that can draw others to a desire to know You as well.

Whatever our children’s hands are called to do while here on earth, may it be done to glorify Your holy name and promote Your eternal cause.

Wednesday’s Prayer Guide-Week 14

“May their eyes on You be cast…”

Father,

There are many distractions and attractions that seek to capture the heart and soul of our children.  All around them the “billboards” of this world are claiming, “here’s what you need; here’s where WP e cover copyyou should go; here’s the answer to your questions.”  Sadly, some of us have made the mistake of looking to the world for our guidance and we have been left floundering and faltering.  We don’t want this for our children.

Oh! God, please help our children fix their gaze upon You.  Give them the courage to look past the temporal pleasures of this world and see the immeasurable riches of Your everlasting kingdom.

We pray that when they come to a crossroads in their lives, may they see only the Cross of Christ, Your beloved Son.  And may it remind them to look only to You for their strength.

“Fix your gaze directly before you.  Make level paths for your feet and take only ways that are firm.  Do not swerve to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.”   Proverbs 4:24-31

“So, we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen.  For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”  2 Corinthians 4:18

“My eyes are continually toward the Lord, for He will pluck my feet out of the net.”  Psalm 25:15

Don’t Give Your Treasure Away!

The song below is from a 1988 concert (also posted on our Vintage Video page). It is titled, “The Treasure” and features a lyric that candidly addresses the issue of pre-marital sex.

The verbal introduction is a straightforward statement to both parents and teens about the dangers of giving away the DSC_1719treasure of moral purity.

While it is an honest set up to the song we hope the tenderness of the music and lyrics will offer helpful instruction to those who have saved their          “treasure” for marriage as well as encouraging hope for those who have stumbled in this area.

Wednesday’s Prayer Guide-Week 13

(As a reminder, here is the song, “Wednesday’s Prayer” from which the lines in the prayer are taken)

“Guide their feet, Lord, light their path…”

Dear Father,

There are many choices our children face each day and all of them are potentially life changing.  We ask You, Lord to WP e cover copyguide them in each decision they make. Help them to seek Your will and to follow it.

We pray that our children will learn what it means to fully trust in You, and to not lean on their own understanding.  Our hearts’ cry is they will acknowledge You, O Lord, and You will make their paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5, 6)

We find comfort in knowing Your Word will illuminate their path and show them the right way to go. As their parents, we recommit to the working of Your Holy Spirit in our lives. We long to be a godly example for our children so that as they watch us they will be inspired to follow You more closely.

In Christ’s name we pray,

Amen

“Who among you fears the Lord and obeys the word of his servant?  Let him who walks in the dark, who has no light, trust in the name of the Lord and rely on his God.”   Isaiah 50:10

  “Father, calm their fears…

Oh, Lord God, when our children’s hands shake in fear,

When their frightened hearts race out of control, And when the cold sweat of an anxious moment

pours down their temples,

may You settle their very spirits with the assurance that You are close to them.

And may that deep calm be a sign of defeat to the enemy of their souls.

Heavenly Father,

We are comforted because we know You hear our prayers

when our children face those times they feel threatened and

they weep for fear of those things that might happen,

please help them to understand that there is only

one safe place to hide.

May their spirits be refreshed as they take shelter in Your protective arms.

Give them the strength to plant their feet not on the sand of uncertainty,

but on You, O Lord, the solid rock of eternal Hope.

We pray they will know that from everlasting to everlasting

Your love continues to sustain those who reverence You.

We know that fear and trust cannot occupy the same space at the same time.

It is because You are trustworthy that we pray our children will choose trust over fear.

“The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear?

The Lord is the defense of my life; whom shall I dread?”

Psalm 27:1

Wednesday’s Prayer-Week 11

“No other joy will last as long…”

Oh, Father, You know it breaks our hearts to see our children hurting.  Our only comfort is in knowing that we can totally trust You to use whatever they are going through for their ultimate good.

WP e cover copy In those times when a failure may feel permanent and they are tempted to surrender to despondency, we pray that You will speak to them deep in their spirit and remind them that weeping lasts for a night, but joy comes in the morning.

As You, Oh Lord, deliver our children through the “Red Seas” of life, and help them find their way through the wilderness that is this world, may they abide forever in the joy of knowing that it is You alone who is their source of lasting joy.

“Thou wilt make known to me the path of life; in Thy presence is fullness of joy; in Thy right hand there are pleasures forever.” Psalm 16:11
